The State Order Commemorates the Brave Bachelors of Sarawak
KUCHING: Sarawak’s commitment to honoring the courageous sons of the land was reiterated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. The state is set to commemorate the valor of these individuals who selflessly served their nation.
The memory of Sarawak’s gallant bachelors, who fearlessly defended their homeland, is being honored in a state order that recognizes their invaluable contributions.
“Indeed, it is imperative that we honor the dedication and valor of our courageous bachelors,” remarked Abang Johari. “Their service and bravery shall forever be etched in our history.”
The media spotlight recently shone on the late Corporal (B) Etin Jam, posthumously awarded the Midul Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa (SP), at the Kuching Speech Hall.
In addition to this recognition, Sarawak Premier Abang Johari expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the families of these heroes. “We acknowledge the sacrifices made by the leaders of Sarawak, especially during times of conflict,” he stated.
The solemn ceremony at the Kuching Speech Hall marked the arrival of Niang Etin’s remains, escorted by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RUDM), from Miri. Etin, who valiantly fought against communist insurgents, passed away at the age of 83, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and resilience.
Among the dignitaries present were Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister of Premier Office, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, Minister of Indus Development, Nembiak Mit, Community Speaker Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Minister of Consumer Industries, Commodities and Development of Sarawak Region Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, and Sarawak Command Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
Etin’s indomitable spirit in combating communism was highlighted during the ceremony, underscoring the significance of his contribution to national security. His bravery was exemplified by his role in neutralizing a prominent communist leader on April 29, 1972, an act that earned him the prestigious SP award.
