TANJUNG MANIS – Residents of Belawai Seaside Village were relieved after a hornet’s nest discovered on the ceiling of a home was successfully destroyed by the Civil Defence Force (APM) on 26 April 2026.
The incident was reported to APM at 12.25pm when concerned villagers contacted the authorities about the presence of a large nest.
Four members of the Tanjung Manis District Civil Defence Force were dispatched to the location. After arriving at 7.30pm, the team carried out a thorough inspection of the property.
The inspection revealed a hornet’s nest attached to the outer ceiling of the complainant’s house. Officials estimated the nest to be roughly the size of a takraw ball, posing a potential risk to the occupants and nearby residents.
Hornets are known for their aggressive behaviour when disturbed, and their stings can be dangerous, particularly for children, the elderly, or individuals with allergies.
To ensure safety, the team employed controlled burning methods to eliminate the nest. The operation was conducted carefully to prevent the insects from dispersing into the surrounding area.
According to APM, the procedure was completed smoothly without any untoward incident. The successful removal of the nest has reassured the household and the wider community.
Local authorities emphasised that such interventions are vital in rural and coastal villages where encounters with hornets and other stinging insects are more common due to the natural environment.
Hornet infestations have been reported in several parts of Malaysia in recent years, often linked to the proximity of human settlements to forested or coastal areas.
Experts highlight the importance of early reporting to prevent nests from growing larger and becoming more hazardous.
The Civil Defence Force continues to encourage residents to remain vigilant and to contact emergency services immediately if they encounter similar threats.
