Huang Clan Marks Chinese New Year and Women’s Day in Kuching

KUCHING – The Sarawak Jiangxia Hall Huang Clan Association held its 2026 Year of the Horse Lunar New Year Gathering Luncheon and Women’s Day Celebration on Sunday, 8 March 2026, where clan members gathered for a celebration in a festive atmosphere.

“Gathering Clan Members, Celebrating the New Year, and Discussing Heritage”, as the event was themed, was a nod to the association’s commitment to kinship and cultural continuity.

The luncheon was attended by Dato Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS), who held dual roles as guest of honour and member of the Huang family.

In his speech, Dato Wee said he was touched, as the gathering showed the bond of Huang clan members is alive and well no matter where they come from.

He also singled out female elders and sisters for special wishes in honour of International Women’s Day, calling them the “pillars” of their families and custodians of clan traditions.

It was a gala celebration full of cheerful engagements among members, reflecting the unity and affection in the Huang family.

Organisers thanked everyone for their contribution, which made the luncheon a memorable and meaningful event.

The importance of being unified and preserving one’s culture has long been something the association has advocated for.

Dato Wee ended his speech by encouraging members to unite and work together towards building a united Sarawak, as he said heritage plays an important role in uniting people socially to create harmony.
