KUCHING – The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sarawak Branch paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Complex, presenting updates on achievements and strategic initiatives for the 2025/2026 term.
The delegation, led by Chairperson Ir Dr Angelia Liew San Chuin, comprised nine representatives from the branch’s current committee.
The meeting provided an overview of IEM Sarawak’s programmes and upcoming events, underscoring the organisation’s role in advancing engineering excellence and community engagement.
Among the highlights was the announcement of the IEM Engineer’s Run 2025, themed Engineering Green Legacies.
Scheduled for 30 November at the Petros Multifuel Station Batu Kawa, the event will feature 1,750 runners across 3KM, 5KM and 10KM categories. Organisers noted that this year’s edition will be one of the largest since the run’s inception in 2015.
Over the past decade, the Engineer’s Run has evolved from a modest gathering into a significant community event, bringing together engineers, families, industries, government representatives and the public in a positive and inspiring environment. The Deputy Premier was officially invited to attend as Guest of Honour.
The committee also shared plans for the IEM Sarawak Annual Dinner 2025, another key event designed to strengthen professional networks and celebrate engineering achievements.
During the engagement, Datuk Amar Dr Sim discussed the recently passed Building (Amendment) Bill 2025, which aims to modernise Sarawak’s building regulatory framework.
The legislation introduces enhanced sustainability standards and green building requirements, reflecting the state’s commitment to environmental resilience.
He commended the engineering community for its contributions to nation building and emphasised the importance of engineers in supporting Sarawak’s transition towards a greener and more sustainable future.
The visit reinforced the collaborative relationship between the state government and professional bodies, highlighting the role of engineers in shaping Sarawak’s development agenda and ensuring that innovation and sustainability remain at the forefront of progress.
