KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Immigration Department (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia, JIM) successfully carried out a large-scale operation targeting locations suspected of unlicensed prostitution in the heart of Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, 7 December 2025.
Dubbed Operation Gegar, the initiative was a joint effort between JIM Putrajaya and JIM Johor. The operation began at 11.30 am, focusing on several premises along Jalan Petaling, Jalan Imbi, and Jalan Pudu. During the raids, authorities intercepted a Bangladeshi national fleeing in a car with four women suspected of being illegal immigrants (PATI).
A total of 139 individuals were apprehended during the operation, including 112 women, all suspected of involvement in illegal activities. Inspection of the premises revealed that some two-storey buildings had been extensively modified to accommodate small rooms, reportedly for prostitution purposes.
Immigration Director-General stated that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to curb unlicensed and illegal activities in urban areas, emphasizing that law enforcement will continue to monitor hotspots where such activities are prevalent. Authorities also reminded business owners and the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest JIM office.
The crackdown highlights Malaysia’s continued commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring that all residents, legal or otherwise, comply with national immigration laws. This operation not only demonstrates the efficiency of inter-state collaboration between JIM divisions but also sends a strong message to illegal operators and human traffickers exploiting vulnerable individuals.
The arrested individuals will be processed according to Malaysian law, while investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for running and facilitating illegal activities at these locations.
