BAU – Police in Bau carried out an integrated operation on 19 April 2026 at Pasar Serikin, focusing on crime prevention and traffic enforcement.
The initiative involved snap checks and patrols by officers and personnel, aimed at ensuring compliance with road regulations while strengthening public safety in the busy trading area.
During the course of the operation, authorities inspected 25 vehicles and checked 30 individuals. Five summonses were issued for various traffic offences, but no arrests were made.
The exercise was reported to have run smoothly, with all activities conducted in a controlled manner.
The operation was part of ongoing efforts by the Bau District Police Headquarters (IPD Bau) to maintain order in public spaces.
Pasar Serikin, known for its weekend crowds and cross-border trade, has long been a focal point for enforcement activities due to its high visitor numbers.
Police presence in such locations is seen as a deterrent to unlawful behaviour and a reassurance to the public.
Officials highlighted that visible enforcement not only addresses traffic violations but also contributes to wider crime prevention.
By combining patrols with spot checks, the police aim to reduce risks associated with congestion and ensure that visitors feel secure while conducting their activities.
Community policing remains a central strategy for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), with integrated operations forming part of a broader plan to safeguard public areas.
Authorities have emphasised that similar initiatives will continue to be intensified across Sarawak, particularly in locations where large gatherings and trading activities take place.
The Bau police underscored their commitment to maintaining law and order, noting that consistent monitoring helps reinforce compliance with regulations.
“Consistent presence. Compliance guaranteed. Safety maintained” was the message conveyed during the operation, reflecting the department’s focus on proactive enforcement.
Local traders and visitors have generally welcomed such measures, recognising the importance of safety in ensuring smooth business and community interactions.
With Pasar Serikin serving as a popular destination for both domestic and foreign visitors, the assurance of security is seen as vital for sustaining its role as a regional trading hub.
The operation concluded without incident, and police confirmed that all personnel and logistics were in good condition.
Authorities reiterated that similar enforcement activities will remain a priority to uphold public confidence and maintain order in Bau and surrounding areas.
