BAU – The Bau District Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division (BPJKK), through its MPV Unit, recently carried out a public outreach programme at the Lepapa Supermarket, Tasik Biru, to encourage registration for the PDRM Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application.
During the initiative, three visitors successfully registered as new users of the app. The VSP platform, introduced by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), is designed to make it easier for the public to share information related to crime and to notify authorities of absences from their homes. By doing so, the app strengthens community-police cooperation and enhances overall safety.
The programme reflects PDRM’s ongoing efforts to integrate technology into crime prevention strategies. Officials explained that the VSP app allows users to report suspicious activities, drug-related offences, and other criminal behaviour directly from their smartphones. This immediate communication channel helps police respond more effectively to incidents.
Community engagement remains a central focus for the Bau District Police, who continue to encourage residents to take advantage of the app.
Authorities stressed that public participation is vital in reducing crime rates and ensuring neighbourhoods remain secure.
The initiative at Tasik Biru is part of a wider campaign to expand awareness and usage of the VSP application across Sarawak.
The police highlighted that the app is not only a reporting tool but also a preventive measure. By informing officers of absences, residents can help reduce the risk of burglary and other property-related crimes. This feature is particularly useful during festive seasons or school holidays when many families travel.
Local residents welcomed the programme, noting that the app provides a convenient and accessible way to stay connected with law enforcement.
The Bau District Police have indicated that similar registration drives will continue in other public spaces to reach more users.
The BPJKK Bau Division reaffirmed its commitment to community safety, urging the public to remain vigilant and proactive. With the support of technology and active citizen involvement, authorities believe crime prevention efforts can be significantly strengthened.
