LUBOK ANTU – Police in Lubok Antu have detained a man in his late twenties for allegedly purchasing subsidised diesel without the required authorisation.
The arrest was made yesterday morning at a petrol station in Pekan Lubok Antu during an operation under OP Tiris 4.0.
According to police, the suspect was found with three barrels containing a total of 60 litres of diesel fuel. The fuel was reportedly acquired without a permit or special approval from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN). Officers also seized a four-wheel-drive vehicle believed to have been used in the transaction.
The case has been referred to the Sri Aman branch of KPDN for further investigation. Authorities confirmed that the arrest and seizure were carried out under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961, which regulates the handling of controlled goods.
Offenders convicted under this provision may face fines or imprisonment, depending on the severity of the offence.
Police have stated that OP Tiris 4.0 will continue to be enforced across Sarawak, with particular focus on preventing the diversion of subsidised fuel.
The operation is part of a wider initiative to safeguard government resources and ensure that subsidies reach their intended beneficiaries.
Fuel diversion has been a recurring issue in several districts, with subsidised diesel often targeted due to its lower price compared to market rates.
Authorities have highlighted that such practices not only undermine government policy but also contribute to unfair competition in the market.
The Lubok Antu District Police Headquarters has reiterated its commitment to intensifying monitoring efforts.
Officers are expected to maintain regular checks at petrol stations and conduct surprise inspections to deter illegal purchases.
Residents have been urged to comply with regulations and avoid involvement in unauthorised fuel transactions.
Police emphasised that community cooperation is vital in curbing the misuse of controlled goods and protecting public interest.
