Four Suspects Detained in Serian Motorcycle Theft Case

SERIAN – Police in Serian have taken swift action following a motorcycle theft incident in Kampung Tanah Puteh, leading to the arrest of four men aged between 17 and 26.

The suspects, all from the Gedong and Simunjan areas, were apprehended by officers from the Serian District Criminal Investigation Division.

During the operation, authorities recovered a Yamaha Y15 motorcycle along with an engine and several related components believed to be linked to the case. The arrests were carried out as part of ongoing efforts to curb property crimes in the district.

Investigations revealed that three of the suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine during urine screenings.

Police records further showed that the individuals had prior offences connected to drug use and property-related crimes.

This discovery has raised concerns about the overlap between narcotics abuse and theft cases in the region.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which covers theft of motor vehicles. If convicted, offenders face a prison term of up to seven years and may also be fined.

The law is designed to address the growing issue of vehicle theft, which has been a persistent challenge in several districts across Sarawak.
