Israel Closes Embassies Worldwide Following Strikes on Iran

Tel Aviv – Israel has shut down all of its embassies and consulates globally and urged nationals abroad to remain vigilant after launching a major surprise air campaign against Iran. The unprecedented diplomatic move reflects heightened security concerns amid fears of Iranian retaliation.

According to an official announcement from the Israeli Foreign Ministry, the shutdown and suspension of consular services were implemented “in light of the ongoing conflict development and regional threats.” Israelis abroad have been instructed to report their locations promptly and avoid wearing identifiable or national insignia in public.

This comes in the wake of Operation Rising Lion, a large-scale military operation that deployed over 200 aircraft to target approximately 100 strategic sites in Iran, including nuclear enrichment facilities and IRGC military installations. Iran responded by launching ballistic missiles and drones toward Israeli territory.

The protective embassy measures follow similar steps taken in April 2024 when Israeli diplomatic missions were shuttered after strikes on Iranian-linked sites in Damascus, Syria.

Security alerts have since risen significantly in countries hosting Israeli diplomatic facilities. Germany, Sweden, and other governments have reported stepped-up protection for Jewish and Israeli sites. Former U.S. President Donald Trump publicly supported the Israeli government’s actions, describing the strikes as “excellent,” and reaffirmed the need for robust deterrence capabilities
