Gaza – As global attention has been drawn to the 12-day escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran, Israeli military operations in Gaza have continued, resulting in significant loss of life. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 870 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza during this period, with hundreds more injured.
The ministry reports that the casualties include a significant number of civilians, caught in the crossfire of ongoing airstrikes and ground operations.
The intensified Israeli military actions in Gaza have coincided with the broader regional conflict involving Iran, raising concerns about the humanitarian toll in the besieged enclave. Sources indicate that Israeli forces have targeted multiple areas in Gaza, including densely populated residential zones, leading to widespread destruction of infrastructure and displacement of families.
Al Jazeera reported that alongside these operations, internet access in Gaza has been severed, and a total lockdown has been imposed in parts of the occupied territories, further exacerbating the crisis.
The Gaza Health Ministry has described the situation as a “humanitarian catastrophe,” with medical facilities overwhelmed and struggling to treat the wounded due to shortages of supplies and power. International aid organizations have called for an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted access to deliver humanitarian aid to those affected.
While the conflict with Iran has dominated headlines, critics argue that the simultaneous operations in Gaza have received insufficient global scrutiny. The United Nations and several human rights groups have urged all parties to prioritize the protection of civilians and adhere to international humanitarian law.
Israel has not issued an official statement regarding the reported casualties in Gaza, but the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have previously stated that their operations target militant infrastructure in response to security threats. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, with growing calls for de-escalation and dialogue to address the spiralling violence in the region.
