Tehran / Tel Aviv / Washington – Israel’s military confirmed today that it conducted an airstrike on a command center in central Tehran, killing Major General Ali Shadmani, whom the military described as Iran’s “wartime chief of staff” and a senior military adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei .
Who Was Ali Shadmani?
Appointed earlier this month after the killing of Maj. Gen. Gholam Ali Rashid, Shadmani led the “Khatam al-Anbiya” emergency command headquarters, overseeing both the IRGC and the regular army .
His role placed him at the center of Iran’s military-operations architecture, directing strategic combat planning and precision operations .
Iran officially confirmed Shadmani’s death, with state media acknowledging what the IDF called a “precision” overnight strike .
Tensions Escalate Amid Broader Conflict
Shadmani’s death follows the June 13 strike that killed several other senior Iranian military leaders—most notably IRGC chief Hossein Salami, IRGC Air Force head Amir Ali Hajizadeh, and General Mohammad Bagheri, the armed forces chief of staff .
Iran responded with missile and drone attacks on Israeli cities like Tel Aviv and Haifa, while Israel targeted strategic sites across western Iran, including missile bases and the Natanz uranium facility .
Casualties have mounted on both sides: at least 224 Iranians and 24 Israelis, mainly civilians, have been reported killed amid the strikes .
Regional Fallout & Diplomatic Urgency
Both nations have engaged in an intense five-day cycle of airstrikes, prompting warning sirens of incoming missiles in Tehran and Israeli territories .
U.S., EU, and regional governments are urging restraint. While G7 and other international leaders back Israel’s right to defend itself, they also emphasise the need to prevent wider regional conflict and discuss nuclear non-proliferation .
President Trump has denied mediating a ceasefire but called on citizens to evacuate Tehran, asserting continued U.S. support for Israel’s security .
What Happens Next
The removal of Shadmani and other senior commanders significantly disrupts Iran’s military chain of command, yet Tehran has stated it will not negotiate while under attack .
With no immediate truce in sight and both sides escalating strikes, global leaders are calling for diplomacy to contain the conflict’s spread.
