JAKIM Sarawak MADANI Iftar Brings Comfort to Lawas PDK Residents

LAWAS – A MADANI iftar programme organised by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) Sarawak brought together residents of the Community Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) Lawas and members of the local community during the holy month of Ramadan.

The event was held in Lawas in collaboration with the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (PERKIM) Lawas Branch. The gathering aimed to support residents of PDK while strengthening the spirit of unity and compassion associated with Ramadan.

Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, who also serves as patron of PDK Lawas, said society must recognise and support people with disabilities. She said individuals with disabilities should not be seen as a burden, adding that their resilience often inspires patience and gratitude among others.

The programme also included a Ramadan tazkirah before participants gathered for the iftar meal. The shared breaking of fast created a warm setting that reflected values of compassion, unity, and mutual care.

The initiative forms part of wider efforts by JAKIM Sarawak to strengthen community welfare programmes across the state. Through cooperation with local organisations, the event highlighted how religious institutions and community groups work together to support vulnerable members of society.

As Ramadan continues, programmes like this serve as a reminder of the importance of inclusivity and compassion, ensuring every member of the community feels supported and valued.
