Jalan Batu Kitang Reopens Temporary Lane After Pipe Burst Disruption

Kuching, 9 January 2026 – The Sarawak Public Works Department has moved swiftly to address the recent disruption at Jalan Batu Kitang and Jalan Haji Baki caused by a burst water pipe. The incident, which caused significant inconvenience to motorists, prompted an immediate site inspection by the Director of Public Works, YBhg. Datu Adj. Prof. Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. Dr. Cassidy Morris.

Upon visiting the affected area, Dr. Cassidy Morris assessed the damage and coordinated with his team to implement prompt remedial measures. He confirmed that a temporary one-lane diversion will be opened to the public at 6.00 pm today to help ease traffic congestion and allow motorists to pass safely while repair works are ongoing. He also urged all drivers to exercise caution and follow road signs carefully.

“Public safety remains our top priority,” said Dr. Cassidy Morris. “We are committed to repairing the affected road as quickly as possible while ensuring that traffic flow is maintained. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding during this period.”

The Sarawak Public Works Department has mobilized teams to carry out the repair works immediately. Local residents and road users are advised to stay updated on traffic conditions through official announcements and to plan their travel accordingly to avoid delays. The department emphasized that these repairs are essential to ensure long-term road safety and comfort for all commuters.

Authorities reminded motorists that temporary diversions are in place and that careful driving is crucial. They assured the public that the situation is under control and that restoration efforts will continue until normal traffic conditions are restored.

This incident highlights the department’s quick response and ongoing commitment to maintaining safe and reliable road networks across Sarawak.
