Man Rescued After Car-Lorry Collision on Jalan Sungai Tapang

KUCHING: A man was seriously injured after the Proton Saga he was driving collided with a lorry along Jalan Sungai Tapang here this afternoon.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), an emergency call was received at 3.35 pm reporting the crash. A team of six firefighters from the Kota Sentosa Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the rescue team found the driver trapped in the front seat of the car, which had suffered severe damage from the impact. The Operation Extraction Team (PKO) used rescue tools to carefully remove the victim before placing him on a stretcher and handing him over to the Ministry of Health (MOH) medical team for first aid treatment.

In a statement, JBPM said the victim sustained injuries to his legs and head but was conscious when firefighters reached him. He was later taken to a nearby hospital by an MOH ambulance for further treatment.

“The victim’s identity could not be confirmed as no identification documents were found at the accident scene,” the department said.

The rescue operation, led by PBK I Tiwi Nios, concluded at 4.10 pm after the scene was declared safe and fully under control.

Personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) also assisted in the operation.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, and investigations are ongoing. Motorists are reminded to stay alert and drive cautiously, especially along busy routes like Jalan Sungai Tapang, which has seen several traffic incidents in recent months.
