KUCHING – A young motorcyclist lost his life in a tragic collision along Jalan Tapah, Jalan Kuching-Serian, early this afternoon. The fatal crash, which occurred at about 1.20pm, has once again raised concerns over road safety along busy routes connecting Kuching and surrounding districts.
According to early information from the Padawan District Police, the 24-year-old rider was travelling along the stretch when he collided with a car coming from the opposite direction. The impact was severe and the victim died at the scene before medical assistance could be provided. Police officers and first responders arrived shortly after receiving the emergency call.
Padawan District Police Chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are underway. The case is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. The authorities are gathering statements from witnesses and examining evidence to determine the exact cause of the collision.
The victim’s body has been sent to the hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police have also advised the public not to speculate on the incident while the investigation continues. Family members of the deceased have been notified, and arrangements are being made for the body to be claimed once the examination is completed.
This tragedy adds to the growing tally of road accidents involving young motorcyclists in Sarawak. Jalan Kuching-Serian, in particular, remains a critical route with heavy daily traffic. Many motorists have long urged for stricter enforcement and safer driving practices, especially during peak hours when the risk of collision is higher.
As the investigation progresses, the authorities continue to remind road users to remain alert, follow traffic rules, and practice defensive driving. Every life lost on the road is a reminder of how fragile the journey can be when caution is not taken seriously.
