BINTANGOR – The RM50,000 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) project to build a jetty at Rumah Panjang Jana, Tanah Putih has been completed ahead of schedule, providing improved facilities for the longhouse community.
A brief handover ceremony was held to mark the completion, officiated by Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing. Also in attendance were Sarikei Division JKR Assistant Engineer Ismandi and Rumah Jana headman.
Datuk Ding highlighted that the RTP is a Sarawak government initiative designed to strengthen rural infrastructure, deliver basic amenities, and uplift the quality of life for residents in rural constituencies, including the Meradong area.
The project commenced on 26 June 2025 and was originally scheduled for completion on 27 September 2025. However, work was finalised ahead of time by the appointed contractor, selected through a lottery system, under the supervision of the Sarikei Division JKR.
With the new jetty in place, local residents are expected to benefit from safer and more convenient access to transportation and economic activities along the river, reinforcing the state’s commitment to rural development.
