JCPenney Plans Store Closures Amid Market Shifts
JCPenney has announced another round of store closures, expected to take place by mid-2025. The closures are part of the company’s ongoing adjustments to “rapidly changing market conditions,” according to a company spokesperson.

While JCPenney assures that there are no plans for large-scale reductions, a “handful” of stores will close due to expiring leases and market changes. These closures will affect eight locations across the U.S., including stores in California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Maryland, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and West Virginia.

The impacted stores include:

  • San Bruno, CA – The Shops at Tanforan
  • Denver, CO – The Shops at Northfield
  • Pocatello, ID – Pine Ridge Mall
  • Topeka, KS – West Ridge Mall
  • Annapolis, MD – Annapolis Mall
  • Asheville, NC – Asheville Mall
  • Newington, NH – Mall at Fox Run
  • Charleston, WV – Charleston Town Center

These closures come as part of JCPenney’s continued efforts to adapt following its bankruptcy filing in 2020, when it permanently shut down nearly a third of its 846 stores. Although JCPenney was later acquired by Simon Property Group and Brookfield Asset Management Inc., it continues to face challenges in the retail industry.

The company clarified that this round of closures is unrelated to its January merger with SPARC Group. — Yahoo
