KUCHING, 5 March 2026 – The Enforcement Division of the Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia (JIM) Kuching has stepped up monitoring and enforcement activities at several Ramadan bazaars around Bandar Kuching to ensure full compliance with immigration laws.
The operation, carried out as part of ongoing enforcement efforts during the holy month of Ramadan, involved a team of 10 enforcement officers. The focus of the inspection was to monitor traders and ensure that the employment of foreign workers at bazaar stalls complies with the existing regulations under Malaysian immigration laws.
According to a statement released by the department, inspections were conducted at several key Ramadan bazaar locations, including Medan Niaga Kubah Ria, Jalan Semarak, Matang Mall and Bandar Baru Semariang. These areas are known to attract large numbers of traders and visitors during the fasting month.
The monitoring exercise aimed to ensure that stall operators adhere strictly to the conditions of passes and permits issued to foreign workers. Enforcement officers also took the opportunity to advise traders on the importance of complying with immigration requirements to avoid legal action.
JIM confirmed that no immigration offences were detected during the operation. The department described the outcome as encouraging and a positive sign that traders are increasingly aware of the regulations governing the hiring of foreign workers.
The presence of enforcement officers at Ramadan bazaars is part of a broader strategy to maintain order and uphold the law, especially during festive periods when business activities increase. Authorities stressed that such operations are not meant to disrupt business but to safeguard fair practices and ensure that all traders operate within the legal framework.
The department expressed hope that continuous monitoring efforts will further strengthen awareness among bazaar operators and prevent violations in the future. JIM also reminded employers that strict action can be taken against those found breaching immigration laws, including fines, prosecution and revocation of permits.
As Ramadan bazaars continue to operate across Kuching, the authorities have pledged to maintain regular inspections to protect the integrity of the business environment and uphold the law in Sarawak.
