JIM Sabah Arrests 66 Illegal Immigrants in Kota Kinabalu Sweep

KOTA KINABALU – The Malaysian Immigration Department (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia, JIM) Sabah State has successfully carried out a large-scale enforcement operation targeting illegal immigrants (PATI) in the Kota Kinabalu district and surrounding areas.

The operation, conducted from 21 to 26 September 2025, was initiated following public complaints and intelligence reports. It covered several areas including Papar, Penampang, Manggatal, Inanam, Sepanggar, and Tuaran. A total of 28 officers from the Kota Kinabalu Enforcement Division were involved in the week-long operation.

During inspections of 153 individuals, authorities arrested 66 illegal immigrants. The detainees comprised nationals from Pakistan, the Philippines, and Indonesia. They were found to have either invalid travel documents, overstayed their visas, or violated pass conditions under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963. All detainees have been sent to the Papar Immigration Depot for further legal action.

The Sabah Immigration Department emphasized its commitment to taking strict enforcement action against individuals or entities who employ or protect illegal immigrants. “We urge the public to cooperate by providing information about illegal foreigners in their areas. No compromise will be given to anyone violating the law, especially those threatening national security,” said a department spokesperson.

Authorities reiterated that ongoing operations are part of the department’s effort to maintain law and order and ensure national security. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving foreign nationals without valid documents.

This operation highlights the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards illegal immigration and the importance of community involvement in supporting law enforcement efforts. – JIM Sabah
