BETONG – The JKR Islamic Welfare Association (PKIJ) Betong Branch organised a donation programme for the asnaf community in the Betong area on 12 March 2026, in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan 1447H/2026M.
The initiative was part of the Public Works Department’s (JKR) ongoing welfare efforts, aimed at easing the burden of those in need while encouraging the practice of sharing sustenance among staff.
By involving employees directly, the programme fostered a spirit of generosity and reinforced the values of compassion during Ramadan.
The event also provided an opportunity to strengthen ties between JKR staff and the local community. Organisers emphasised that beyond material assistance, the programme was designed to nurture friendship and unity in a harmonious atmosphere.
According to PKIJ representatives, the donation drive was well received by recipients and highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in supporting vulnerable groups.
The initiative reflects JKR Betong’s commitment to not only infrastructure development but also social welfare, ensuring that the department remains connected to the community it serves.
The programme ran smoothly and is expected to be continued in future years. Organisers expressed hope that it will inspire more employees to participate in charitable activities, instilling values of togetherness and concern for others.
Across Sarawak, similar Ramadan initiatives are being carried out by government agencies and community organisations, reinforcing the state’s broader commitment to inclusivity and welfare.
For Betong, the PKIJ donation programme stands as a reminder of the importance of compassion and solidarity during the fasting month.
