JKR Kapit Signs One-Month Pledge to Strengthen Governance

KAPIT – The Public Works Department (JKR) Kapit Division has taken steps to reinforce project governance by organising a Divisional One-Month Pledge Signing Session on 16 March 2026. The event was held at the JKR Kapit Division Meeting Room, Level 6, State Government Complex.

The initiative is designed to ensure contractors commit to delivering tangible progress within the first month of project implementation.

By setting clear expectations early, JKR aims to strengthen accountability and reduce the risks of delays.

Among the projects included in the pledge session were:

  • Proposed slope protection works at CH4+300 Jalan Selirik (Q614), Kapit Division (Contract No.: PW7D/WO/2026/3(F))
  • Proposed slope protection works at CH3+000 Jalan Selirik (Q614), Kapit Division (Contract No.: PW7D/WO/2026/4(F))
  • Proposed slope protection works at CH1+500 Jalan Lepong Baleh (Q615), Kapit Division (Contract No.: PW7D/WO/2026/5(F))

JKR Sarawak stated that the department will closely monitor the implementation of these pledges to ensure projects are carried out according to plan.

The monitoring process will focus on compliance with specifications, timely delivery, and effective management of resources.

The One-Month Pledge initiative reflects JKR Sarawak’s ongoing commitment to improving project efficiency and governance.

By requiring contractors to demonstrate early progress, the department aims to build confidence among communities that development projects will be completed on schedule and to the expected standards.

Officials highlighted that slope protection works are critical in Kapit, where road safety and infrastructure resilience are priorities due to challenging terrain and weather conditions.

These projects are expected to reduce risks of landslides, improve road safety, and enhance accessibility for residents.

The pledge signing also symbolises the government’s broader strategy to ensure that rural infrastructure projects deliver maximum benefits to the people of Sarawak.

By strengthening governance mechanisms, JKR hopes to set a benchmark for transparency and accountability in project delivery.

With the pledges now in place, contractors are expected to begin work immediately, demonstrating visible progress within the first month.

The initiative is seen as a proactive measure to ensure that development projects in Kapit meet community needs and contribute to Sarawak’s long-term growth.
