KUALA LUMPUR – The Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Sarawak has undertaken a courtesy visit to the MyBIM Centre in Kuala Lumpur, reinforcing its commitment to advancing Building Information Modelling (BIM) adoption and strengthening digital capabilities within the department.
The delegation was led by Ts. Meehan anak Jorai, Deputy Director of Technical Sector, accompanied by Ir. Ts. Jessie Chin, Head of the BIM Unit, alongside Gerald Ng from the BIM Unit and Samuel Chieng from Cawangan Aset Bangunan.
The visit forms part of JKR Sarawak’s forward-looking initiative to establish a dedicated BIM Lab, which will serve as a hub for enhancing BIM readiness in government projects. The lab is expected to play a crucial role in supporting the state’s construction industry, aligning with national objectives to institutionalise BIM as a standard practice across public-sector developments.
Insights gathered during the engagement will be used as a reference for the planning, design, and renovation framework of the upcoming BIM Lab. By benchmarking against industry best practices, JKR Sarawak aims to ensure that its facilities meet the evolving demands of modern construction and digital transformation.
BIM technology, widely recognised as a catalyst for improved productivity and collaboration, has been increasingly adopted across Malaysia’s construction sector. The MyBIM Centre, established under the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), functions as a national hub for BIM training, research, and implementation. Its role in promoting digitalisation has been instrumental in raising standards of project delivery nationwide.
For Sarawak, the integration of BIM is seen as a strategic step towards enhancing efficiency in infrastructure projects, reducing costs, and improving coordination among stakeholders. The state government has emphasised that digitalisation is central to its broader development agenda, particularly in ensuring that public works projects are delivered with higher quality and transparency.
JKR Sarawak expressed appreciation to the MyBIM Centre for the knowledge exchange and collaborative spirit demonstrated during the visit. The department highlighted that such engagements are vital in building institutional capacity and ensuring Sarawak remains aligned with national and global construction trends.
The initiative reflects JKR Sarawak’s leadership-driven approach in embedding BIM adoption as a cornerstone of its operations. With the establishment of the BIM Lab, the department is expected to set new benchmarks in project management, ultimately contributing to more sustainable and innovative infrastructure development across the state.
