JKR Sarawak Launches Strategic Engagement for Health Contractors

KUCHING – The Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) has launched the Strategic Engagement and Introduction Series on Health Facility Contractor Development, officiated by YBhg Datu Adj. Prof. Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. Dr. Cassidy anak Morris, Director of PWD Sarawak, at the JKR Research Centre Sarawak on 11 February 2026.

The programme was organised to strengthen collaboration between PWD and industry players, particularly in enhancing competence, technology, and innovation within the state’s construction sector.

The research centre served as a fitting venue, given its role as a hub for knowledge sharing and technical development.

This initiative reflects PWD Sarawak’s ongoing commitment to positioning the state as a centre for construction excellence.

By engaging contractors directly, the department aims to improve technical capabilities and ensure that health facility projects meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

One of the key objectives of the programme was to provide contractors with exposure to current policies and strategic directions in health facility development.

Participants were briefed on the importance of obtaining the Health Contractor Competency Certificate (SKKK), which is a prerequisite for tendering in government health facility projects.

In his opening speech, Dr Cassidy Morris emphasised the importance of such engagements. “In my opinion, programmes such as this also provide a space for local contractors to more clearly understand the needs for the implementation of government facility projects, thereby strengthening the preparedness of their respective organisations in terms of technical competence and project management skills,” he said.

The event also created a platform for two-way dialogue between PWD and contractors, allowing issues to be discussed openly and solutions to be explored collaboratively.

This approach is expected to ensure that health facility projects are implemented systematically, with compliance to safety and technical standards.

PWD Sarawak reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening the state’s construction ecosystem through collaboration, knowledge transfer, and capacity building.

The department highlighted that sustainable and high-impact public infrastructure can only be achieved when contractors are well-prepared and aligned with government requirements.

By empowering contractors with the necessary skills and knowledge, PWD Sarawak aims to deliver projects that not only meet technical specifications but also serve the long-term needs of communities across the state.
