Johor Launches Green Development Policy 2030 with Royal Endorsement

JOHOR BAHRUHer Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, the Raja Permaisuri Agong, officiated the launch of the Johor Green Development Policy (PPHJ) 2030, a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening the state’s sustainability agenda. She was accompanied by YAM Che’ Puan Mahkota Khaleeda Johor.

The ceremony, held at the Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre (TMIYC), was attended by YAB Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Menteri Besar of Johor; Dato’ Asman Shah Abd Rahman, Johor State Secretary; and Dato’ Ir Hasni Mohammad, Executive Chairman of the Johor Sustainability Centre (JSC).

In addition to the policy launch, the event marked the inauguration of the Raja Zarith Sofiah Learning Centre and the Johor Sustainability Centre.

Both institutions are expected to play a pivotal role in advancing education and sustainability programmes across the state.

Speaking at the event, Dato’ Ir Hasni Mohammad described PPHJ 2030 as a strategic framework formulated by the Johor government to drive green development.

“The Raja Zarith Sofiah Learning Centre is an initiative to strengthen the Bangsa Johor Bahagia programme inspired by Her Majesty the Queen Mother, Raja Zarith Sofiah,” he said.

The Queen also presented letters of appointment to seven members of the JSC Advisory Board, reinforcing the centre’s role in guiding Johor’s sustainability efforts.

The ceremony witnessed three major collaboration signings to support Johor’s green agenda:

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between JSC and Saitaman City Hall for educational and sustainability cooperation.
  • An MoU between Permodalan Darul Ta’zim and Yinson Greentech to explore business opportunities in the electric vehicle industry.
  • A joint venture agreement between the International Finance Corporation (World Bank), Permodalan Darul Ta’zim, and Ditrolic Energy to explore investment opportunities in the Southern Johor Renewable Energy Corridor (SJREC).

The launch of PPHJ 2030 signals Johor’s commitment to positioning itself as a leader in green growth, renewable energy, and sustainable development.

With strong royal endorsement and international partnerships, the policy is expected to accelerate Johor’s transition towards a low-carbon economy while creating new opportunities in education, technology, and industry.
