SIBU – A coordinated enforcement exercise involving three government agencies was carried out in Sibu on 23 April 2026, targeting road safety, immigration compliance and drug-related offences.
The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) through its Sibu Branch joined forces with the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) Sibu and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) Sibu in an integrated operation along Jalan Bukit Lima, near SMK St Elizabeth.
The operation was conducted during both morning and evening sessions. Authorities inspected a total of 342 vehicles of different categories throughout the day.
Officers identified several violations, including motorists failing to wear seat belts, driving without valid licences, expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM), and technical faults relating to vehicle safety standards.
In addition to road offences, JIM Sibu detained two foreign nationals for breaches under the Immigration Act.
Meanwhile, AADK Sibu arrested eleven individuals who tested positive for drugs. These arrests were made to ensure further legal action could be taken in accordance with national laws.
The integrated operation highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration in maintaining public order.
By combining resources and expertise, JPJ, JIM and AADK were able to address multiple areas of concern simultaneously, ranging from traffic discipline to immigration control and drug prevention.
Officials emphasised that such joint efforts are crucial in safeguarding communities and ensuring compliance with the law.
The presence of multiple agencies also served as a deterrent to offenders, reinforcing the message that violations will not be tolerated.
JPJ Sarawak expressed appreciation to all participating agencies for their commitment and cooperation.
The department noted that integrated operations of this nature will continue to be strengthened periodically to uphold road safety and public security across the state.
Community leaders in Sibu welcomed the initiative, pointing out that visible enforcement helps reassure residents and promotes safer environments for families.
The arrests made during the operation also underscored the ongoing challenges posed by drug abuse and immigration offences, issues that require consistent monitoring and intervention.
The operation at Jalan Bukit Lima reflects the broader strategy of Sarawak’s enforcement agencies to work together in tackling diverse challenges.
By addressing road safety, immigration and drug-related concerns in one coordinated effort, the agencies demonstrated a united front in protecting public welfare.
