KUCHING – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) has intensified enforcement measures by conducting comprehensive inspections of express buses at Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal ahead of festive travel and school holidays.
The initiative, carried out on 17 March 2026, is part of JPJ Sarawak’s proactive approach to ensure passenger safety. Inspections focus on verifying that public service vehicles are in proper condition, comply with technical specifications, and meet regulatory standards before being allowed to depart.
Officials highlighted that the inspections are particularly significant during peak travel seasons, when passenger numbers rise sharply. By checking both vehicle readiness and driver preparedness, JPJ aims to minimise risks and ensure smoother journeys for travellers.
JPJ Sarawak has also urged all express bus operators and drivers to prioritise safety by maintaining vehicles in optimal condition. The department reminded operators that compliance with regulations is essential to safeguard passengers and maintain public confidence in transport services.
At the same time, JPJ encouraged members of the public to play an active role in monitoring safety. Passengers are advised to report any violations or non-compliance to the authorities, helping to ensure that every journey remains safe and orderly.
The initiative reflects JPJ Sarawak’s broader commitment to road safety advocacy, complementing ongoing campaigns and enforcement activities across the state. By strengthening oversight of public transport, the department aims to reduce accidents and improve travel experiences for communities.
With festive celebrations approaching, JPJ Sarawak reiterated its pledge to continue working closely with operators, drivers, and passengers to ensure that journeys are not only safe but also smooth and prosperous.
