JPJ Kapit Branch Intensifies Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026

KAPIT – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak, through its Kapit Branch, has stepped up enforcement activities under Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri (HRA) 2026, focusing on road safety and compliance with traffic regulations.

The operation, conducted on Thursday, 26 March 2026, involved patrols and monitoring across Kapit town.

JPJ officers carried out inspections on a total of 112 vehicles, ranging from motorcycles to commercial transport.

The initiative is part of a wider campaign to safeguard road users during the festive season, when traffic volumes traditionally rise.

Among the offences identified were motorists driving without valid licences, riders failing to wear helmets, and drivers operating without the required Goods Driving Licence (GDL).

Technical violations relating to vehicle conditions were also detected. JPJ confirmed that legal action was taken against all offenders in accordance with existing legislation.

Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a nationwide enforcement programme aimed at reducing accidents and ensuring smoother traffic flow during the festive period.

Similar operations have been reported in other divisions of Sarawak, reflecting JPJ’s commitment to consistent enforcement across the state.

Authorities emphasised that the campaign is not solely punitive but also educational. JPJ officers have been engaging with motorists to raise awareness about the importance of safe driving practices.

The department has repeatedly highlighted that compliance with road laws is essential to protect lives and prevent avoidable tragedies.

According to JPJ Sarawak, the Kapit operation is part of a broader strategy combining enforcement with advocacy.

The department intends to continue strengthening its presence on the roads, particularly during high-risk travel periods such as festive holidays.

The department’s spokesperson reiterated JPJ’s dedication to ensuring that every journey is safe, orderly, and prosperous.

“We will continue to intensify enforcement and advocacy for road safety to ensure that every road user’s journey is always safe, orderly and prosperous,” the statement read.

Road safety remains a pressing concern in Malaysia, with festive seasons often seeing spikes in traffic accidents.

National statistics have shown that enforcement campaigns, combined with public awareness initiatives, contribute to reducing fatalities and improving compliance.

JPJ Sarawak’s proactive measures in Kapit are therefore aligned with broader national efforts to enhance road safety culture.

As Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaches, JPJ has urged all motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, licences are valid, and safety gear such as helmets are properly used. The department stressed that collective responsibility is key to achieving safer roads for all.
