KUCHING – A routine patrol turned into a quick roadside rescue when the Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ Sarawak) stepped in to assist stranded motorists along a busy stretch of road.
On March 25, officers from the Kuching Operations Unit responded to two damaged vehicles that had stalled on the Kuching-Serian Road. Both vehicles were moved to safer spots, easing traffic and lowering the risk of further accidents.
That stretch of road serves as a key route for commuters heading in and out of Kuching toward southern parts of the state.
Breakdowns during peak hours often lead to congestion and increase the chance of collisions. Clearing the vehicles quickly made a noticeable difference for drivers passing through.
JPJ Sarawak used the moment to highlight a broader point. Their role goes beyond issuing fines or checking documents.
Officers are also expected to respond fast, assist motorists, and keep traffic moving when unexpected situations arise.
The department continues to remind drivers to check their vehicles before setting out, especially during long trips and festive periods.
Basic steps like ensuring valid insurance, road tax, and proper maintenance help prevent breakdowns and reduce risks on the road.
In recent years, JPJ has expanded patrols across major routes and town centres throughout Sarawak. The goal stays simple: cut down accidents and improve safety for everyone using the roads.
This latest incident reflects that approach. It wasn’t about enforcement; it was about being present, stepping in when needed, and making sure other road users stayed safe.
With travel expected to pick up in the coming weeks, JPJ Sarawak says patrols will remain active across the state, keeping roads orderly and responding quickly whenever help is needed.
