JPJ Kuching Cracks Down on Road Offenders in City-Wide Ops

JPJ Kuching Cracks Down on Road Offenders in City-Wide Ops

KUCHING, 13 January 2026 – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Kuching carried out a series of enforcement operations across Kuching City and Samarahan yesterday, targeting foreign drivers, driving institutes, and school transport vehicles. The initiatives, aimed at enhancing road safety, were conducted by the JPJ Kuching Operations Unit through the Delta Team and the Motorcycle Enforcement Unit (UPB Team).

The first operation, known as Ops PEWA, focused on foreign drivers. During the inspections, an Indonesian citizen was apprehended for operating a commercial vehicle without a valid driving license. Authorities also found that the vehicle had no GDL vocational license, no road tax, and was uninsured. Summonses were issued, and the vehicle was seized to prevent further violations.

In a separate initiative, Ops OKIM targeted driving institutes and their training vehicles. The enforcement team carried out checks on teaching vehicles and driving test procedures, resulting in a total of 17 notices issued for various technical violations. JPJ officials emphasized that these actions are necessary to ensure that driving institutes maintain proper standards and that learner drivers are trained in a safe environment.

The third operation, Ops BTS, focused on school transport safety. School buses and vans were inspected for compliance with technical regulations. During the operation, seven notices were issued to vehicles found with minor technical faults. Officers also provided advocacy to drivers and school operators, highlighting the importance of roadworthiness and safety for children traveling to and from school.

JPJ Sarawak confirmed that such enforcement operations will continue on a regular basis to uphold road safety and ensure that drivers, whether local or foreign, comply with the law. The department urged all road users to maintain proper licensing, insurance, and vehicle conditions to prevent accidents and legal repercussions.

Through these coordinated operations, JPJ Kuching demonstrates its commitment to protecting road users and promoting a culture of compliance and safety on Sarawak roads.
