KUCHING – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak has reinforced its commitment to public transport safety during the festive season with direct monitoring of Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri (HRA) 2026 at Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal.
On Tuesday, Deputy Director Mohd. Faizal David bin Jemat personally inspected bus operations and the control room to ensure compliance with safety standards.
His visit highlighted the department’s determination to safeguard passengers during the period of heightened travel associated with Hari Raya.
The inspection focused on verifying that public service vehicles were properly maintained and met all safety requirements before carrying passengers.
Officials stressed that such measures are vital in reducing risks and ensuring smooth journeys for travellers.
JPJ Sarawak’s top management involvement reflects a strong commitment to enforcement and passenger welfare.
The department emphasised that safety remains its highest priority, particularly during festive seasons when road traffic and public transport usage increase significantly.
Faizal noted that the monitoring exercise was designed to strengthen confidence among the public, ensuring that their journeys are not only safe but also well-coordinated.
He added that the operation demonstrates JPJ’s proactive approach in maintaining order and minimising potential hazards.
Community leaders and transport operators have welcomed the initiative, recognising that strict enforcement helps protect passengers while fostering trust in public transport services.
The monitoring also serves as a reminder to bus operators of their responsibility to uphold safety standards consistently.
The Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026 programme is part of JPJ’s wider strategy to enhance road safety across Sarawak.
By combining inspections, enforcement and public awareness, the department aims to reduce accidents and ensure that festive travel remains secure and efficient.
The initiative underscores JPJ Sarawak’s role in promoting responsible transport management, ensuring that the joy of Hari Raya is celebrated without compromising safety.
