JPJ Miri Delivers Road Safety Lecture to GIATMARA Trainees

MIRI – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) through its Miri branch conducted a lecture on vehicle safety and road regulations for new trainees at GIATMARA Miri on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

The session was led by Puan Nurhasanah Mashur and Tuan Mohamad Nasir Hj. Abdul Latiff, who addressed a group of 40 trainees in the GIATMARA lecture hall.

The presentation focused on the importance of adhering to traffic laws, maintaining vehicle safety standards, and recognising the shared responsibility of all road users in ensuring safer journeys.

Officials explained that compliance with road regulations is not only a legal requirement but also a crucial step in reducing accidents and protecting lives. The lecture highlighted practical aspects of vehicle maintenance, safe riding practices, and the consequences of negligence on the road.

JPJ Sarawak expressed gratitude to GIATMARA Miri for extending the invitation and supporting the initiative. The department emphasised that such collaborations are vital in instilling discipline and awareness among young drivers and riders, particularly those just beginning their training.

The programme also underscored the role of education in shaping responsible road users. By engaging trainees early in their learning journey, JPJ hopes to cultivate habits that prioritise safety and respect for traffic rules.

Road safety remains a pressing issue in Sarawak, where motorcycles and small vehicles are widely used for daily commuting. Authorities have consistently stressed the need for awareness campaigns and training sessions to reduce accident rates and improve public safety.

Community stakeholders welcomed the effort, noting that initiatives like these can help foster a culture of caution and responsibility. With more young people entering the workforce and relying on motorcycles for mobility, the importance of safe driving practices has become increasingly significant.

The lecture concluded with a reminder that every road user plays a part in creating safer roads. JPJ Sarawak reaffirmed its commitment to continuing outreach programmes across the state, aiming to build a generation of disciplined and safety-conscious drivers.
