KUCHING – The Road Safety Unit of JPJ Sarawak has intensified its advocacy efforts with the launch of a Road Safety Campaign Roadshow in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026.
The programme, held on 17 March 2026 at PETRONAS Metrocity Matang Station, was organised in strategic collaboration with PETRONAS. The initiative aims to raise awareness among road users, particularly those travelling during the festive season, when traffic volumes are typically higher.
By conducting the campaign at petrol stations and other key locations, JPJ Sarawak seeks to deliver safety messages directly to the public in a more effective and accessible manner. This ground-level approach ensures that important reminders about road laws and safe driving practices reach communities in a practical and engaging way.
The event was attended by Mr Christopher Alex anak Boniface Barau, Head of Senior Division (Management & Corporate), representing JPJ Sarawak’s top management. He personally engaged with road users, offering words of encouragement and stressing the importance of prioritising road regulations during festive journeys.
JPJ Sarawak expressed its appreciation to PETRONAS, particularly the management of PETRONAS Metrocity Matang, for their strong support in making the campaign a success. Officials noted that such partnerships are vital in strengthening ongoing efforts to ensure safer and smoother travel experiences for the public.
The roadshow forms part of JPJ Sarawak’s broader strategy to reduce accidents and promote responsible driving behaviour. With festive seasons often associated with increased travel, the department emphasised that awareness campaigns are crucial in reminding motorists to remain vigilant and considerate on the road.
Community members welcomed the initiative, highlighting that direct engagement at petrol stations provides timely reminders for drivers preparing for long journeys. The campaign also reflects JPJ Sarawak’s commitment to fostering a culture of safety and compliance across the state.
As Hari Raya approaches, JPJ Sarawak continues to encourage all road users to plan their journeys carefully, obey traffic laws, and prioritise safety to ensure that festive celebrations are enjoyed in peace and prosperity.
