KUCHING – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak) has carried out a dedicated enforcement operation targeting e-hailing services around Kuching International Airport to ensure compliance with public service vehicle regulations.
The operation, known as Public Service Vehicle Ops (E-Hailing), was conducted on 14 January 2026 (Wednesday) by the JPJ Falcon Team. It was led by Mr. Mohd Ismail bin Omar, Head of the Kuching JPJ Operations Unit.
During the inspection, officers identified several offences related to e-hailing operating conditions. A non-compliance notice was issued to one driver, with further action to be taken in accordance with existing laws.
JPJ Sarawak emphasised that such enforcement activities are crucial to maintaining safety standards, ensuring legal compliance, and upholding the quality of public transport services. The department reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying monitoring and enforcement from time to time.
Authorities highlighted that e-hailing services, while providing convenience to passengers, must adhere strictly to regulations governing licensing, insurance, and operational requirements. These measures are designed to protect both drivers and passengers, particularly in high-traffic areas such as airports.
The operation reflects JPJ’s broader mission to safeguard public transport integrity across Sarawak. By conducting routine checks, the department aims to deter violations and encourage operators to comply with the law, thereby enhancing trust in e-hailing services.
JPJ Sarawak has urged passengers and drivers alike to cooperate with enforcement efforts, stressing that compliance contributes to a safer and more reliable transport system for the community.
