JPJ Sarawak Steps Up Express Bus Inspections for Festive Season

KUCHING – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak has intensified inspections on express buses at the state’s three main terminals in Kuching, Sibu and Miri ahead of the festive season.

The initiative is part of Ops Hari Raya Aidiladha and Ops Hari Gawai Dayak 2026, aimed at ensuring passenger safety during the busy travel period.

The inspections, carried out on 23 May, focused on vehicle safety standards, compliance with road regulations and driver readiness.

JPJ officers emphasised that every bus must be in proper operational condition before embarking on journeys to various destinations across Sarawak.

With traffic volumes expected to rise during the festive season and school holidays, JPJ’s proactive measures are designed to reduce accident risks and safeguard the welfare of passengers.

Officials stressed that safety cannot be compromised, and any breaches of regulations will be dealt with firmly. Passengers were also reminded of their responsibility to wear seat belts throughout their journey.
