JPJ Sarawak Cracks Down on Foreign Drivers and Luxury Vehicle Offences

KUCHING – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak carried out a focused operation on Tuesday targeting foreign drivers and luxury vehicle owners in Kuching city to ensure compliance with road regulations.

Teams Charlie and Delta conducted the operation through both mobile patrols and static enforcement points at Jalan Song and Jalan Tun Salahuddin, aiming to guarantee that motorists and vehicle owners fully follow Sarawak’s road laws.

During the Foreign Driver Ops, a driver was detained for not possessing a valid driving licence. Meanwhile, in the Luxury Vehicle Ops, a car was found with an expired road tax (LKM) since 1 October 2024 and lapsed insurance from 2 October 2024. Both vehicles were impounded for further legal action under current legislation.

JPJ Sarawak emphasised that such enforcement is part of ongoing efforts to uphold road safety, maintain legality, and protect all road users. Authorities urged drivers and vehicle owners to keep their documents valid and comply with traffic laws to avoid penalties.

Similar operations will continue across the state to strengthen compliance and deter violations, particularly among high-value vehicles and foreign drivers who may be unfamiliar with local regulations.

JPJ Sarawak also called on the public to cooperate during enforcement activities and to ensure licences, road taxes, and insurance are up to date to prevent legal issues.
