KUCHING – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) convened a Special Ops Implementation Briefing on 11 March 2026 at the Kenyalang Meeting Room, focusing on preparations for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday season.
The session was chaired by Puan Fifi Suhesty binti Asmuni, Head of the Sarawak JPJ Enforcement Division. Senior enforcement officers attended in person, while branch heads, operations leaders, and enforcement station chiefs from across Sarawak joined virtually. This hybrid format ensured that coordination could be achieved effectively across the state.
The briefing outlined operational strategies designed to manage the expected surge in traffic during Aidilfitri and the concurrent school holidays. Key points included staff deployment, enforcement approaches, and measures to maintain compliance with road regulations.
JPJ Sarawak emphasised that the initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to improving road safety and reducing accident risks. By strengthening enforcement and ensuring orderly traffic flow, the department aims to provide safer journeys for the public throughout the festive period.
The Special Ops briefing also highlighted the importance of proactive planning, with officers tasked to monitor high-risk routes and ensure that enforcement activities are carried out consistently. The department stressed that compliance with road laws is crucial to safeguarding lives and preventing congestion during peak travel times.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri traditionally sees a significant increase in vehicle movement as families travel to celebrate with loved ones. JPJ’s preparations are therefore seen as vital in maintaining public safety and minimising disruptions.
The department has consistently rolled out similar operations during major festive seasons, combining enforcement with public awareness campaigns. These efforts aim to remind drivers of their responsibilities and encourage safer driving practices.
By engaging officers from across Sarawak, JPJ ensures that enforcement is not limited to urban centres but extends to rural and inter-district routes where traffic volume also rises during festive periods.
The briefing concluded with a reaffirmation of JPJ Sarawak’s dedication to protecting road users and ensuring that the Aidilfitri celebrations can be enjoyed in a safe and orderly manner.
