KUCHING – The Sarawak State Road Transport Department (JPJ) has officially received new firearms to strengthen its enforcement capabilities and support annual training programmes for licensed officers.
The handover ceremony took place on 9 April 2026 at the Kenyalang Meeting Room, JPJ Sarawak. A total of nine firearms were presented by Tuan Haji Akmal bin Haji Zabri, Head of Security Section, JPJ Malaysia, to Tuan Mohd. Faizal David Jemat, Deputy Director of JPJ Sarawak, who represented the State Director.
The event was attended by several senior officials, including Puan Maya binti Morshidi, Head of Vehicle Licensing Division; Tuan Mohd. Ismail, Head of Operations Unit; Tuan Azizul Mohd Annuar, Head of Motorcycle Enforcement Unit (UPB); and Tuan Mohamad Attan bin Mohamad Bojeng, Sarawak State JPJ Weapons Officer.
Also present were the Headquarters Armaments Officer, Headquarters Armaments Technical Officer, and the Sarawak State JPJ Asset Officer.
The acquisition of these assets reflects JPJ’s ongoing commitment to enhancing operational readiness and ensuring that enforcement officers are equipped with firearms that meet strict safety standards and specifications.
Officials emphasised that the weapons will be used not only for enforcement duties but also for structured training sessions involving all licensed personnel.
By strengthening its arsenal, JPJ Sarawak aims to improve its preparedness in handling enforcement challenges, particularly in areas requiring heightened security measures.
The department highlighted that the new assets will contribute to more effective operations while also ensuring compliance with national safety regulations.
The move underscores JPJ’s broader strategy to modernise its enforcement framework and maintain high levels of professionalism among its officers.
With the addition of these firearms, JPJ Sarawak is expected to further consolidate its role in safeguarding road safety and upholding regulatory standards across the state.
