JPJ Sarawak Seizes Three Luxury Vehicles in Kuching Ops

KUCHING, June 10 – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak seized three luxury vehicles during a special enforcement operation known as Ops Luxury conducted around Kuching city on Wednesday.

The operation, carried out by the JPJ Kuching Operations Unit, focused on ensuring vehicle owners comply with road transport regulations, particularly those involving valid road tax and insurance coverage.

During the enforcement patrol, officers stopped and inspected three luxury vehicles, namely a Toyota Alphard, a BMW 6 Series, and a Mercedes-Benz E200. Further checks revealed that the Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM), commonly known as road tax, and insurance protection for all three vehicles had expired.

Following the findings, JPJ officers took enforcement action and seized the vehicles in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

The operation serves as a reminder that compliance with road transport laws applies to all vehicle owners, regardless of the value or status of their vehicles. Authorities stressed that owning a luxury vehicle does not exempt motorists from meeting legal requirements related to vehicle registration, road tax, and insurance coverage.

JPJ Sarawak said vehicle owners have a responsibility to ensure that their road tax and insurance documents remain valid at all times. Failure to do so is not only a violation of the law but may also lead to serious consequences if an accident or unexpected incident occurs.

Road users who drive without valid insurance coverage could face difficulties in handling compensation claims and legal liabilities arising from traffic accidents. Similarly, expired road tax may result in enforcement action, fines, or vehicle seizure during inspections and roadblocks.

The department noted that regular enforcement operations will continue across Sarawak as part of ongoing efforts to improve compliance among motorists and enhance road safety standards. Such operations also aim to create greater awareness among vehicle owners about the importance of maintaining valid documentation before expiry dates.

JPJ Sarawak urged all motorists to routinely check the status of their vehicle documents and renew them promptly to avoid legal action. The department emphasised that responsible behaviour and adherence to road regulations are essential in creating a safer road environment for all road users.

The successful implementation of Ops Luxury reflects JPJ Sarawak’s continued commitment to enforcing road transport laws fairly and consistently, regardless of the type or value of the vehicle involved.
