JPJ Sarawak Extends Aid to Fire Victims in Sibu

SIBU – JPJ Sarawak showed its support for the community by assisting families affected by a fire in Kampung Jeriah.

On 10 February 2026, staff organised a gotong-royong programme to help two households whose homes were destroyed in a blaze last October.

The fire left both families homeless, though fortunately, everyone escaped unharmed. One house belonged to Puan Kelumai Haji Suigem, 58, who lived with her three children and four grandchildren.

The neighbouring home, owned by Puan Dayang Rauyah Abang Hajimi, also burnt down, displacing her three children and three grandchildren.

JPJ staff from the Sibu and Sarikei branches worked together to clear the fire debris. This initiative is part of JPJ’s broader social responsibility efforts, aimed at easing the families’ burden and preparing the sites for reconstruction.

Family representative Aissammudin Ahmad expressed deep gratitude, noting the clean-up had been delayed for months. He added that rebuilding would start soon, thanks to the support provided.

The programme was attended by Tuan Norizan Bin Jili, Director of JPJ Sarawak, along with Tuan Jelapin Anak Entalai, Head of the Sibu Branch, and Puan Nurul Fairezzah Binti Safri, Head of the Sarikei Branch.

Civil service mentors (AKRAB) from JPJ Sibu also joined, highlighting the department’s commitment to community solidarity.

JPJ Sarawak emphasised that initiatives like this go beyond enforcement, reflecting a dedication to helping people in practical ways.

By engaging directly with affected families, the department aims to provide both support and encouragement as victims rebuild their lives.

The effort in Kampung Jeriah stands as a symbol of resilience and compassion, showing how government agencies can play a crucial role in supporting communities during difficult times.

Organisers hope the programme inspires strength and optimism among the families as they begin the recovery process.
