JPJ Sibu Cracks Down: Two Vehicles Seized for Expired Licenses

SIBU, 24 April – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sibu Branch has intensified its enforcement efforts, seizing two vehicles found operating with expired motor vehicle licenses (LKM) during a recent road operation.

The operation, known as Ops Pengarah Bil.5/2025, was held along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and saw over 390 vehicles of various types being inspected by JPJ enforcement teams. The highlight of the day came when two vehicles – a car and a van – were seized for having licenses that had expired for more than six months.

The drivers were immediately issued summonses and enforcement notices on the spot. In total, JPJ issued 28 summonses and 28 enforcement notices for various traffic violations. These included driving without valid documentation, improper vehicle modifications, and failure to display valid road tax.

According to JPJ Sarawak Deputy Director Nor Azlan Ibrahim, the operation was part of a larger state-wide initiative to ensure road users comply with the law and maintain safety standards. He was joined by Enforcement Officer Saifullah Ali, who heads JPJ Sarawak’s operations section.

“Drivers must understand that expired vehicle licenses not only violate the law but also pose risks to other road users,” Nor Azlan said. He reminded all vehicle owners to be responsible by renewing their road tax and insurance on time.

JPJ stressed that similar surprise operations will continue throughout Sarawak as part of their “zero tolerance” approach towards serious traffic offences.

This crackdown sends a strong message: if you’re driving illegally, JPJ will catch up with you — sooner or later. — JPJ Negeri Sarawak
