SIBU – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sibu Branch carried out a joint enforcement initiative on 15 January 2026 (Thursday), focusing on driving institutes and school areas across Sibu town.
The operation, known as Special Ops Driving Institute (OKIM) and Ops Back To School (BTS), involved patrols and monitoring to ensure compliance with road laws and regulations.
The initiative was designed to maintain a safe and controlled level of road usage, particularly in areas frequented by students and learner drivers.
During the enforcement exercise, officers inspected a total of 91 vehicles, comprising both commercial and private vehicles.
The inspections revealed several offences, primarily related to technical aspects of vehicles that failed to meet the required specifications and standards.
JPJ Sarawak emphasised that continuous enforcement remains a priority to improve road safety and protect all road users.
The department highlighted that particular attention is being given to school zones, where student safety is paramount, and to driving institutes, which play a critical role in shaping responsible future drivers.
Officials noted that the operation reflects JPJ’s broader mission to instil discipline among motorists and ensure that vehicles on the road are fit for use.
By conducting routine checks, JPJ aims to reduce risks associated with non-compliance and reinforce public awareness of road safety responsibilities.
The department has urged all drivers to ensure that their vehicles are properly maintained and comply with technical regulations.
Valid documentation, including licences and insurance, must also be kept up to date to avoid penalties and safeguard both drivers and passengers.
JPJ Sarawak reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing enforcement, stressing that such initiatives are vital in building a safer road environment for students, families, and the wider community.
