KUCHING, 16 March 2025 – More than 5,000 people from diverse backgrounds gathered at Padang Merdeka on Saturday for the Juh Berambeh Sungkei 2025, making it a true symbol of unity in Sarawak.
The grand iftar event was attended by Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries, and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who highlighted the importance of celebrating diversity and strengthening community ties.
A Celebration of Unity and Harmony
The program was jointly organized by the Proactive Youth Club and Borneo Glamping, with strong support from the Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED). Several key agencies, including the North Kuching City Hall (DBKU), the Other Religions Affairs Unit (Unifor), and the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), also played an important role in making the event a success.

Addressing the crowd, Dato Sri Abdul Karim praised the spirit of togetherness demonstrated at the event.
“We come from different races and religions, but we celebrate this occasion together. This is the uniqueness of Sarawak, and I hope programs like this will continue to strengthen our unity,” he said.
Empowering Youth for Sustainability
The minister also urged young people to take an active role in sustainability efforts, particularly through initiatives such as ‘Iftar in Unity and Youth Towards Sustainability’.
“Our youth must be agents of change by reducing food waste, using environmentally friendly materials, and participating in community cleanliness activities,” he added.

Beyond being a mass iftar event, Juh Berambeh Sungkei 2025 served as a meaningful platform to foster harmony, cooperation, and cultural appreciation among Sarawakians. Such initiatives continue to reflect the state’s strong multicultural spirit and commitment to inclusivity.
