K-Stage 2025 Ignites Kuching Festival with K-Pop Fever and Cultural Unity

K-Stage 2025 Ignites Kuching Festival with K-Pop Fever and Cultural Unity

KUCHING – Lights, rhythm, and roaring cheers filled the air as K-Stage 2025 — Kuching’s inaugural K-Pop Dance Cover Competition — exploded onto the scene in electrifying fashion, marking a dynamic new chapter in the Kuching Festival.

Hosted by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS), the event was officiated with enthusiasm by MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng and graced by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who officiated the high-energy gathering.

“This is the first time MBKS is hosting a K-Pop Dance Cover Competition, and we’re doing this with one aim in mind — inclusivity. At MBKS, we believe that no one should be left behind,” said Dato Wee, setting the stage for a celebration of unity through music and dance.

In a heartfelt and humorous address, the Mayor recalled learning about popular K-Pop groups such as BTS, Blackpink, EXO, IVE and Stray Kids from his nieces and nephews, noting how K-Pop has become a “language of expression, a global culture, and a powerful force of creativity.”

He proudly spotlighted Ling Ling, a fellow Malaysian who recently debuted in the K-Pop group Kiiras, symbolising the potential for local talent to rise on international stages.

“This competition is more than just dance covers,” he continued. “It’s a platform to build confidence, showcase hidden talent, and unite young people through cultural celebration and healthy competition.”

Addressing the young performers, Dato Wee’s final rallying cry resonated with passion: “Shine bright, own the stage, and most importantly — have fun. This is your moment.”

Cheers erupted across the venue as K-Stage 2025 officially launched, adding youthful flair and cross-cultural energy to the ongoing Kuching Festival.
