Kampung Bawang Sets Standard for Rural Development in Mambong

Kampung Bawang Sets Standard for Rural Development in Mambong

PADAWAN – Kampung Bawang in the Mambong constituency continues to shine as a model of successful rural development, thanks to the united efforts of local residents, village leaders, and steadfast government support.

Sarawak Deputy Transport Minister and Mambong State Assemblyman, Datuk Dr. Jerip Susil, lauded the village’s achievements during the opening ceremony of the Kampung Bawang Village Monument and Community Hall on Sunday. He highlighted that, to date, no ‘sick’ or delayed development projects have been recorded in the Mambong constituency — a testament to the strong cooperation and discipline of the local communities.

“This success is born from sincerity, teamwork, and a sense of shared purpose. It is through these values that every development project in Kampung Bawang has been carried out successfully and efficiently,” Dr. Jerip said.

Among the notable accomplishments is the completion of the new Saint George Church, built with RM800,000 from UNIFOR and an additional RM200,000 from community contributions — bringing the total to RM1 million.

Further developments include an approved RM300,000 allocation via GKCDA to build a JKKK kitchen, and plans to address the old and narrow Kampung Bawang bridge, with an estimated RM500,000 needed for its reconstruction.

Since 2018, three Rural Transformation Projects (RTP) worth RM500,000 have been completed, including construction and renovation works for the village’s community hall.

Dr. Jerip also applauded the community’s rising educational performance and urged continued emphasis on education as a foundation for national development. He called on village management to align with the evolving landscape of digital transformation and modern governance.

Kampung Bawang’s success story underscores what is possible through unity, vision, and a commitment to progress — serving as an inspiration for other rural communities across Sarawak.
