LUNDU – The Kampung Bokah Folk Sports Competition ended on a high note with a vibrant closing ceremony held at the Kampung Bokah Multipurpose Hall, reinforcing community ties and youth empowerment through traditional games and camaraderie.
Organised by the Kampung Bokah Youth Bureau, the event featured lively folk sports such as darts, tug-of-war, balloon blowing, and other interactive activities that drew enthusiastic participation from villagers, especially youths and women.
Officiated by Opar State Assemblyman (ADUN) Billy Sujang, the event highlighted how grassroots programmes can cultivate leadership, unity, and joy within rural communities.
“I am incredibly proud of the spirit and energy shown by Kampung Bokah’s youth. Even more remarkable is that the Youth Bureau here is led by a woman—something truly inspiring,” said Billy in his address.
He praised the volunteerism and progressive leadership demonstrated, noting that such qualities are vital for future community growth.
In his remarks, Billy also addressed the urgent need for a new sports court site, as the current one will soon be repurposed for school use. He assured villagers that efforts are underway to secure a replacement location to ensure continuous access to proper recreational facilities.
He further announced that the Opar KSK Sports Championship, involving participants from across the N1 Opar constituency, will be held in the near future.
“Let’s keep this momentum going. Today’s event has shown what our youth is capable of—let’s bring that same spirit to the upcoming district-level championship,” he added.
The celebration not only revived the nostalgic essence of folk sports but also ignited a renewed sense of unity, leadership, and community pride in Kampung Bokah.
