SERIAN – Kampung Gahat Mawang continues to reap the benefits of sustained rural development, more than 35 years after pledging consistent support to the government, according to Serian MP, Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem.
Speaking during the Leaders’ Meeting with the People event on Saturday, Richard Riot highlighted that residents of the village have gained access to essential infrastructure including electricity, clean water, tarred roads, a multipurpose hall, and a village church.
“These developments are the fruit of the unwavering support shown by the residents of Kampung Gahat Mawang towards the government, which has never neglected the needs of the people at the grassroots,” he stated.
The event, organised by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), provided a platform for dialogue between government representatives and villagers, allowing the community to raise local issues and receive updates on ongoing and upcoming development projects.
Richard Riot emphasised that such engagement programmes are vital in bridging government policy with real community needs, enabling leaders to deliver direct mandates and collect valuable feedback.
“This programme strengthens the bond between the government and the people while ensuring the voices of rural residents are heard,” he added.
He also commended the strong turnout and positive response from the local community, which reflects the villagers’ confidence and openness to the government’s rural development initiatives.
“Their participation proves that the people of Kampung Gahat Mawang are fully invested in the development agenda that continues to improve their quality of life,” he concluded.
The event marks another step in the government’s continued effort to ensure that rural communities are not left behind in Sarawak’s broader development roadmap.
