GEDONG – Development in Kampung Gumpey continues to progress with a series of infrastructure and welfare projects aimed at improving the well-being of residents.
Batang Sadong Member of Parliament Rodiyah Sapiee said several initiatives had been implemented, including the RM100,000 Community Hall upgrade project under TPM 2025, which is currently awaiting final inspection.
In addition, RM14,000 was allocated for canopies at the Darul Iman Mosque, while RM50,000 was spent on upgrading the Islamic cemetery jetty, which has already been completed.
To enhance safety, 20 solar lights were installed throughout the village under a local council allocation worth RM300,000. The installation is expected to improve visibility and security for residents, particularly at night.
Rodiyah also highlighted welfare support provided through the Santuni Rakyat Mengimarahkan Ramadan Programme. An annual fund of RM84,000 was channelled to mosques, suraus, and madrasahs in Gedong, alongside food and cash assistance distributed to 20 recipients.
She emphasised that such initiatives reflect the government’s ongoing concern for the community, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
Another major milestone was the completion of a new mosque project worth RM4.23 million. The mosque, funded by the state through the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) and implemented by the Public Works Department, was officially completed on 29 January 2026. The facility is expected to serve as a central hub for religious and community activities in Kampung Gumpey.
Rodiyah noted that the combination of infrastructure upgrades and welfare programmes demonstrates a balanced approach to development, ensuring that both physical and social needs are addressed.
She expressed hope that residents would continue to make full use of the facilities provided and remain united in supporting community growth.
The projects underline the government’s commitment to strengthening rural areas, with Kampung Gumpey standing as an example of how targeted investments in infrastructure and welfare can uplift local communities.
