Flood Relief Reaches Kampung Landeh Through Batu Kitang Service Team

Flood Relief Reaches Kampung Landeh Through Batu Kitang Service Team

KUCHING: Flood-hit residents of Kampung Landeh received much-needed assistance today when relief supplies were distributed directly to affected families at Jeti Nelayan Kampung Landeh. The visit was led by Albert Lee, who represented YB Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang, Assemblyman for N13 Batu Kitang, in his capacity as Special Assistant. The effort reflected a hands-on approach often expected from elected representatives during times of hardship, especially when natural disasters disrupt daily life.

Recent heavy rainfall has caused flooding in several low-lying areas, forcing families to cope with damaged homes, disrupted livelihoods, and shortages of basic necessities. Understanding the urgency of the situation, the Batu Kitang service team moved quickly to ensure aid reached those who needed it most. Relief supplies were handed over directly to residents, with the aim of easing immediate burdens and offering reassurance that they were not facing the situation alone.

Albert Lee said the visit was not merely about delivering goods, but about showing genuine concern through action. By being present on the ground, the team was able to assess the situation more closely and understand the challenges faced by villagers. Such direct engagement has long been a hallmark of community-based service in Sarawak, where leaders are expected to remain accessible, especially during emergencies.

The success of the relief effort was also attributed to strong cooperation at the village level. Special appreciation was extended to Ketua Kampung Ismail Pak Yet of Kampung Paya Mebi, whose coordination and local knowledge played a key role in ensuring the distribution process went smoothly. His efforts helped identify affected families efficiently and facilitated communication between villagers and the relief team.

Residents expressed gratitude for the timely assistance, noting that early support is crucial while waiting for floodwaters to fully recede. Many families are still in the process of cleaning their homes and restoring normal routines. The presence of representatives from the Batu Kitang constituency provided a sense of comfort and stability during this uncertain period.

In conclusion, the relief distribution at Kampung Landeh stands as a reminder of the importance of swift action, cooperation, and responsible leadership during natural disasters. While recovery may take time, continued attention and follow-up from authorities and community leaders will remain essential to ensure affected families can rebuild and move forward with confidence.
