Kampung Pulau Melayu Futsal Court Upgrade Nears Completion Ahead of Schedule

MIRI – The upgrading of the Kampung Pulau Melayu futsal court is nearing completion, with work progress currently at 95 per cent. The project is expected to be handed over by early October, ahead of its original deadline of 8 October.

The RM150,000 initiative, implemented under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2024, includes improvements to the perimeter fence, installation of floodlights, nets and goalposts, toilet repairs and the construction of a new waqf. Only minor tasks, such as installing the goal nets, remain unfinished.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts I (Tourism) and Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew inspected the site on Thursday.

He was joined by Kampung Pulau Melayu head KK Darahman Sahat, engineers from the Miri City Council and project contractors.

Datuk Sebastian highlighted the importance of quality sports facilities for residents, especially the younger generation.

He said such projects promote healthier lifestyles while offering safe recreational opportunities for the community.

“Healthy living practices are very important and through the provision of sports facilities like this, we can encourage more youth and villagers to be active in beneficial activities,” he said.

The upgraded futsal court is expected to become a focal point for both recreation and youth engagement in Kampung Pulau Melayu once officially reopened.
